Ocean Lakes Family Campground has something going on everyday! We leave the calendars up all year long so you can see what kind of activities we offer when you are planning on visiting. Generally, the monthly calendars are updated a few weeks prior to the upcoming month. The activities are generated through the Recreation Department.

Special Programs for October 2008

PLEASE NOTE:  Due to rallies, Recreation Activities are subject to change without notice.

Fish Fry-day and Entertainment
Friday at 6 pm.  Enjoy flounder, cole slaw, French fries, and a drink, along with bingo and/or other entertainment.  $5.00 per person.  Meet at Sandy's Meet-n-Eat.  (No entertainment 10/24)  Wear your costumes on 10/31.

Family Night at Dixie Stampede
Enjoy Dixie Stampede at a discounted rate on Wednesday nights.  Ocean Lakes offers a special Family Night rate only on Wednesday nights.  Seats are limited so reserve your spot at the Recreation Office no later than Tuesday at 3 pm.

Family Scavenger Hunt

Tuesdays, 7 pm
Meet us in the Recreation Building to pick up your list of questions.  The answers can be found within the campground.  Golf carts, bicycles, or cars are recommended, but not mandatory.  Prizes to winners!  No fee.    
  
Halloween Costume Ball  
Saturday, October 18th at 7 pm
Join us for a fun-filled night with a DJ, dancing, refreshments, and costume contests.  No fee.  Don't forget to wear your costume - prizes to winners of contest!

Pumpkin Carving

Drop off your carved pumpkin at Sandy's Center Stage on Sat. Oct. 25th between 5:45 pm and 6:15 pm.  Please write your name and site # on the back of your pumpkin.  We will award prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in the following categories: Scariest, Most Original, Funniest, Best Carving.  Winners will be announced during the costume contest.  No fee.  Please pick up your pumpkin after the carnival.

Candy Corn Count

Stop by the Rec. Office from Mon. Oct. 20th  - Sat. Oct. 25th by 1 pm to guess how many pieces of candy corn are in the container.  The closest guess without going over wins a prize.  Winners will be announced during the costume contest.  No fee.


South Carolina Fossil Fair
Saturday, October 27th, 9 AM to 3 PM
Scientists from the Smithsonian Institute will be on hand to identify your fossils. Fossil collectors will be displaying their fossil collections. Hands on experience with a mock dig site from the Smithsonian Institute. Explore fossils in a phosphate mine.This event is open to the public and free of charge.

Pumpkin Carving

Halloween Hay Ride
6:30 pm – 8:30 pm
The ride starts in front of the Rec. Bldg.  When you arrive, be sure to pick up your number from the Rec. Office. Refreshments will be available on a first come first serve basis.  We will also have coloring sheets for children.  No fee.
 
Sat. Oct. 25th
South Carolina Fossil & Shell Fair
9:00 am – 3:00 pm
Scientists from the Smithsonian Institute will be on hand to identify your fossils.  See fossil and shell collections from various parts of the world.  We will also have a mock dig site as Dave Brohaska from the Smithsonian Institute shows us how to property locate and dig fossils.  Open to the Public.  No fee.  
 
The Great Pumpkin Search

12:00 pm
Bring your family to Sandy’s Center Stage to pick up a list of clues to help as you search for the hidden pumpkins.  We’ll also have a scavenger hunt for your family to do as you all search for the pumpkins.  We will award prizes for each pumpkin that is found, as well as prizes to the winners of the scavenger hunt.  No fee.  
 
Pet Costume Contest
2:30 pm
Please sign your friendly pet up in the Rec. Office by 11:00am on Sat. Oct. 26th.  Entry Fee will be $5 per pet and all proceeds to benefit Ark Animal Hospital’s NOAH Program. NOAH helps injured strays get well and find a new home.  The contest will be held at Sandy’s Center Stage.  We will award prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in the following categories: Scariest, Most Original, Funniest, Cutest, Prettiest.   Awesome Prizes This Year!
 
Trick or treating
5:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Treat friendly campsites will display a distinctive Halloween sign, which may be picked up in the Rec. Office.  We will also compile a list of treat friendly sites to give to the trick or treaters, so be sure to give us your site number if you want to distribute treats.  In order for your site number to be on the list, please sign up by 2:00pm on Sat. Oct. 27th.  Trick or treaters can pick up the lists anytime after 3:00pm.

Campground Carnival

7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Join us at Sandy’s Meet-n-Eat for games, crafts, music, and contests.  
7:00 pm Carnival Begins – various games and crafts
7:30 pm Pumpkin Pie Eating Contest – How many pies can you eat in a limited amount of time?  Please sign up in the Rec. Office by 11:00   am on Sat. Oct. 27th.  Ages 13 & up.  
8:00pm Costume Contest – we will have 3 different age groups; 7 and under, ages 8-13, and 14 and up.  Winners in each group for the following categories: Scariest, Most Original, Funniest, Cutest.  Please sign up in the Rec. Office.

Sun. Oct. 26th
Family Halloween Movie
6:00 pm
Join us in the Rec. hall to watch a movie on the big screen.  No fee.  Check in Recreation Office to find out the name of the movie.

Water Aerobics
See calendar for days and times.  Join our qualified instructor for a class of aerobic conditioning, toning, exercises, and movement for rehab and arthritis.  All levels are welcome.  No fee.

Exercise Class

See calendar for days and times. Held in the Recreation Building.   Start your day off in a healthy way!  Low impact aerobic classes are held in the Recreation Building.  No fee.   

Coffee and News

Monday-Friday at 9 am.  Start the morning with a cup of coffee and the daily news.  Newspapers available for reading.  See calendar for exceptions. No fee.

Adult Mini Golf
Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 10 am - Meet at the mini golf course for our mini golf tournament.  Prizes to winners.

Family Ceramics Class

Monday-Thursday at 10 am - Recreation Building, Room C.  Class fee is $1.50 plus the costs of bisqueware.  No Ceramics 1st thru 3rd

Bingo

Monday and Wednesday nights at 7 pm in the Recreation Building.  We will play 10 games with prizes going to the winners.  Limit one card per person.  No fee. No bingo on 10/3, 10/22, 10/24.  Wear your Halloween Costumes to Bingo on 10/31!

Miniature Golf & Sandy Harbor Game Hours

Recreation Amenities
Shuffleboard, basketball, ping pong, volleyball, horseshoes, puzzles, books, bocce' ball, cards and board games are available for your enjoyment. All equipment may be checked out in the Recreation Office.

Walk / Run Distance Maps
Stop by the Recreation Office to pick up maps of measured distances for walking / running / jogging throughout the park. Distances marked include one, two, and three mile courses.

I.D. Wristbands
I.D. Wristbands are available in the Recreation Office and the Main Office. Guests are welcome to stop by one of these offices and pick up wristbands for their children or someone with special needs. These colorful wristbands are printed with the name of the campground on them and will help identify children or those with special needs as Ocean Lakes' campers should they become lost. Wristbands are free of charge.

Discount Show and Attraction Tickets
Discount tickets and reservations for many of the Grand Strands finest attractions are available in the Recreation Office. Tickets are available for Prestwick Golf & Country Club, Movie Theaters, Myrtle Beach Grand Prix, Legends in Concert, Alabama Theater, Dixie Stampede, Carolina Opry, Medieval Times, Ripley's Aquarium, and NASCAR speed park.
