Myrtle Beach, SC - Owners of the national award winning Ocean Lakes Family
Campground and Prestwick Country Club want to dispel rumors that they purchased
the billboard in Columbia, SC located near the Jamil Temple and I-26, taunting Carolina
football fans. The billboard indicated it was "Paid for by the Jackson family" spawning
a rash of untrue rumors on USC and Clemson fan websites. Message boards speculated
it was the Jackson family that owns Ocean Lakes Family Campground in Myrtle Beach,
SC. Representatives at Lamar Outdoor Advertising confirmed the billboard was purchased
by a Jackson family in North Carolina.
The billboard has generated numerous calls to The Jackson Companies' businesses
as well as members of the Jackson family. Dennis Wade, CEO of The Jackson Companies
states, "The Jackson family is very concerned about these unfounded rumors and wants
to assure the thousands of loyal customers that they had nothing to do with the
billboard. Although we understand that the billboard was taken down late Friday
afternoon, the damage has been done. The rumors have escalated on the internet and
the phone calls have continued into Friday evening. You can imagine our concern
about the impact of such misinformation as on an average seasonal day there are
more than 30,000 guests in our campground from across the Carolinas." Ocean Lakes
posted a link on its website www.oceanlakes.com
to dispel the rumors.
The Jackson Companies founded by Mary Emily and Nelson Jackson and their five
daughters, includes Ocean Lakes Family Campground, Prestwick Golf & Country
Club, Ocean Lakes Properties, Crystal Lake Mobile Home Village, Ocean Lakes RV Center,
Sunway Charters & Tours and the new master planned mixed use development "SayeBrook."
